"‘Tonight, in the city of David, a Savior is born, 'tis Christ the Lord.'"

"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing."
-Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.

Morning and Night Prayers for Tuesday, August 21

Morning Prayer (Lauds)

Begin with the Dual Prayer (Our Father and Hail Mary).

Then, the Invitatory Psalm:

Make the Sign of the Cross on the lips at the words "Lord, open my lips."

O Lord, open my lips.

And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Come, let us worship the Lord, the great God.

May God have mercy on us, and bless us:
may he cause the light of his countenance to shine upon us,
and may he have mercy on us.
That we may know thy way upon earth:
thy salvation in all nations.

Come, let us worship the Lord, the great God.

Let people confess to thee, O God:
let all people give praise to thee.
Let the nations be glad and rejoice:
for thou judgest the people with justice,
And directest the nations upon earth.

Come, let us worship the Lord, the great God.

Let the people, O God, confess to thee:
let all the people give praise to thee:
The earth hath yielded her fruit.
May God, our God bless us,
May God bless us:
and all the ends of the earth fear him.

Come, let us worship the Lord, the great God.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Psalm 100 (101)

The declaration of a just ruler

Mercy and judgment I will sing to thee, O Lord:
I will sing, and I will understand in the unspotted way,
when thou shalt come to me.

I walked in the innocence of my heart,
in the midst of my house.
I did not set before my eyes any unjust thing:
I hated the workers of iniquities.

The perverse heart did not cleave to me:
and the malignant, that turned aside from me, I would not know.
The man that in private detracted his neighbour, him did I persecute.
With him that had a proud eye, and an unsatiable heart, I would not eat.

My eyes were upon the faithful of the earth, to sit with me:
the man that walked in the perfect way, he served me.
He that worketh pride shall not dwell in the midst of my house:
he that speaketh unjust things did not prosper before my eyes.
In the morning I put to death all the wicked of the land:
that I might cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of the Lord.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Canticle

Daniel 3

The prayer of Azariah in the furnace

Blessed art thou, O Lord,
the God of our fathers,
And thy name is worthy of praise,
and glorious for ever:
For thou art just in all that thou hast done to us,
and all thy works are true,
And thy ways right,
and all thy judgments true.
For thou hast executed true judgments
in all the things that thou hast brought upon us,
And upon Jerusalem the holy city of our fathers:
for according to truth and judgment,
thou hast brought all these things upon us for our sins.
For we have sinned, and committed iniquity,
departing from thee:
And we have trespassed in all things:

Deliver us not up for ever, we beseech thee, for thy name's sake,
and abolish not thy covenant.
And take not away thy mercy from us for the sake of Abraham thy beloved,
and Isaac thy servant,
And Israel thy holy one:

To whom thou hast spoken,
promising that thou wouldst multiply their seed as the stars of heaven,
And as the sand that is on the sea shore.

For we, O Lord, are diminished more than any nation,
and are brought low in all the earth this day for our sins.
Neither is there at this time prince, or leader,
or prophet, or holocaust,
Or sacrifice, or oblation, or incense,
or place of firstfruits before thee,
That we may find thy mercy.

Nevertheless in a contrite heart
and humble spirit
let us be accepted.
As in holocausts of rams, and bullocks,
and as in thousands of fat lambs:
so let our sacrifice be made in thy sight this day,
That it may please thee:
for there is no confusion to them that trust in thee.
And now we follow thee with all our heart,
and we fear thee, and seek thy face.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Psalm 143 (144)

For victory and peace

Blessed be the Lord my God,
who teacheth my hands to fight,
and my fingers to war.
My mercy, and my refuge:
my support, and my deliverer:
My protector, and I have hoped in him:
who subdueth my people under me.

Lord, what is man, that thou art made known to him?
or the son of man, that thou makest account of him?
Man is like to vanity:
his days pass away like a shadow.

Lord, bow down thy heavens and descend:
touch the mountains and they shall smoke.
Send forth lightning, and thou shalt scatter them:
shoot out thy arrows, and thou shalt trouble them.
Put forth thy hand from on high, take me out,
and deliver me from many waters:
from the hand of strange children:
Whose mouth hath spoken vanity:
and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity.

To thee, O God, I will sing a new canticle:
on the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings
I will sing praises to thee.
Who givest salvation to kings:
who hast redeemed thy servant David from the malicious sword.

Deliver me, and rescue me
out of the hand of strange children;
whose mouth hath spoken vanity:
and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity:
Whose sons are as new plants in their youth:
Their daughters decked out,
adorned round about after the similitude of a temple.

Their storehouses full,
flowing out of this into that.
Their sheep fruitful in young,
abounding in their goings forth:
Their oxen fat.

There is no breach of wall, nor passage,
nor crying out in their streets.
They have called the people happy, that hath these things:
but happy is that people whose God is the Lord.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Short Reading

Isaiah 55:1

All you that thirst, come to the waters: and you that have no money make haste, buy, and eat: come ye, buy wine and milk without money, and without any price.

Canticle

Benedictus

The Messiah and his forerunner

Make the Sign of the Cross at the words "Blessed be the Lord…"

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people: And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, in the house of David his servant: As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who are from the beginning: Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us: To perform mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy testament, The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, that he would grant to us, That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear, In holiness and justice before him, all our days.

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways: To give knowledge of salvation to his people, unto the remission of their sins: Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, in which the Orient from on high hath visited us: To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: to direct our feet into the way of peace.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Prayers and Intercessions

God gives the happiness of praising him this morning and so gives us a firmer our hope in him. Let us trustingly pray:
    - For the glory of your name, hear us, O Lord.
We give you thanks, God and Father of Jesus our Saviour:
for the immortality you have granted us through him.
Give us the gift of humility,
so that we may be subject to one another in the fear of the Lord.
Fill us, your servants, with your Spirit:
may our brotherly love not be a pretence.
You commanded man to labour and thereby rule the world
grant that our labours may celebrate your name and give holiness to our brethren.

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
 hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
 and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those that trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
 but deliver us from evil.

Lord, increase our faith in you,
so that the praise we give to you
may constantly yield its fruit from heaven.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
 God for ever and ever.
Amen.

Make the Sign of the Cross at the words "May the Lord bless us…"

May the Lord bless us and keep us from all harm; and may he lead us to eternal life.
