"‘Tonight, in the city of David, a Savior is born, 'tis Christ the Lord.'"

"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing."
-Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.

Morning and Night Prayers for Monday, August 27

Morning Prayer (Lauds)

Begin with the Dual Prayer (Our Father and Hail Mary).

Then, the Invitatory Psalm:

Make the Sign of the Cross on the lips at the words "O Lord, open my lips."

O Lord, open my lips.

And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Let us come before the Lord and proclaim our thanks.

Sing joyfully to God, all the earth:
serve ye the Lord with gladness.
Come in before his presence with exceeding great joy.

Let us come before the Lord and proclaim our thanks.

Know ye that the Lord he is God:
he made us, and not we ourselves.
We are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

Let us come before the Lord and proclaim our thanks.

Go ye into his gates with praise,
into his courts with hymns:
and give glory to him.
Praise ye his name:
For the Lord is sweet,
his mercy endureth for ever,
and his truth to generation and generation.

Let us come before the Lord and proclaim our thanks.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Psalm 5

A morning prayer for help

Give ear, O Lord, to my words,
understand my cry.
Hearken to the voice of my prayer,
O my King and my God.

For to thee will I pray:
O Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear my voice.
In the morning I will stand before thee, and will see:
because thou art not a God that willest iniquity.
Neither shall the wicked dwell near thee:
nor shall the unjust abide before thy eyes.

Thou hatest all the workers of iniquity:
Thou wilt destroy all that speak a lie.
The bloody and the deceitful man the Lord will abhor.
But as for me in the multitude of thy mercy,
I will come into thy house;
I will worship towards thy holy temple, in thy fear.

Conduct me, O Lord, in thy justice:
because of my enemies, direct my way in thy sight.
For there is no truth in their mouth;
their heart is vain.
Their throat is an open sepulchre:
they dealt deceitfully with their tongues:
judge them, O God.
Let them fall from their devices:
according to the multitude of their wickedness cast them out:
for they have provoked thee, O Lord.

But let all them be glad that hope in thee:
they shall rejoice for ever,
and thou shalt dwell in them.
And all they that love thy name shall glory in thee:
For thou wilt bless the just.
O Lord, thou hast crowned us,
as with a shield of thy good will.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Canticle

1 Chronicles 29

To God alone be honour and glory

Blessed art thou, O Lord the God of Israel,
our father from eternity to eternity.
Thine, O Lord, is magnificence,
and power, and glory, and victory:
And to thee is praise:
for all that is in heaven, and in earth, is thine:
Thine is the kingdom, O Lord,
and thou art above all princes.
Thine are riches, and thine is glory,
thou hast dominion over all.

In thy hand is power and might:
in thy hand greatness,
and the empire of all things.
Now therefore our God we give thanks to thee,
and we praise thy glorious name.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Psalm 28 (29)

Praise the word of the Lord

Bring to the Lord, O ye children of God:
bring to the Lord the offspring of rams.
Bring to the Lord glory and honour:
bring to the Lord glory to his name:
Adore ye the Lord in his holy court.

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters;
the God of majesty hath thundered,
The Lord is upon many waters.
The voice of the Lord is in power;
the voice of the Lord in magnificence.

The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars:
yea, the Lord shall break the cedars of Libanus.
And shall reduce them to pieces,
as a calf of Libanus,
and as the beloved son of unicorns.
The voice of the Lord divideth the flame of fire:
The voice of the Lord shaketh the desert:
and the Lord shall shake the desert of Cades.
The voice of the Lord prepareth the stags:
and he will discover the thick woods:
and in his temple all shall speak his glory.

The Lord maketh the flood to dwell:
and the Lord shall sit king for ever.
The Lord will give strength to his people:
the Lord will bless his people with peace.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Short reading

2 Thessalonians 3:10 - 13

For also when we were with you, this we declared to you: that, if any man will not work, neither let him eat. For we have heard there are some among you who walk disorderly, working not at all, but curiously meddling. Now we charge them that are such, and beseech them by the Lord Jesus Christ, that, working with silence, they would eat their own bread. But you, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

Canticle

Benedictus

The Messiah and his forerunner

Make the Sign of the Cross at the words "Blessed be the Lord…"

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people: And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, in the house of David his servant: As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who are from the beginning: Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us: To perform mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy testament, The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, that he would grant to us, That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear, In holiness and justice before him, all our days.

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways: To give knowledge of salvation to his people, unto the remission of their sins: Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, in which the Orient from on high hath visited us: To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: to direct our feet into the way of peace.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Prayers and Intercessions

Christ is filled with grace and the Holy Spirit. Let us proclaim his greatness and trustfully ask him:
    - Lord, give us your Spirit.
Make our day happy, without disturbance, without sin,
so that when we reach evening we can praise you joyfully with pure hearts.
May your radiance shine on us through the day:
guide the work of our hands.
Watch over us: let us do good in peace
and do what is right, with the strength you give us.
Look kindly on all who have asked for our prayers
and fill them with good things, both in body and in soul.

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
 hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
 and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those that trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
 but deliver us from evil.

Lord, be with us in all we plan and help us in all we do,
so that our every action begins from you
 and is completed through you.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
 God for ever and ever.
Amen.

Make the Sign of the Cross at the words "May the Lord bless us…"

May the Lord bless us and keep us from all harm; and may he lead us to eternal life.

Re: Morning and Night Prayers for Monday, August 27

Compline (Night Prayer)

Make the Sign of the Cross at the words “O God…”.

O God, come to my aid.
O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen. Alleluia.

This is an excellent moment for an examination of conscience.

Penitential Rite

I confess to almighty God,
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have sinned through my own fault,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done,
and in what I have failed to do;
and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin,
all the angels and saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord, our God.

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

Amen.

Psalm 85 (86)

A poor man's prayer in time of trouble

Lord God, you are full of mercies, patient and true.

Incline thy ear, O Lord, and hear me:
for I am needy and poor.
Preserve my soul, for I am holy:
save thy servant, O my God, that trusteth in thee.

Have mercy on me, O Lord,
for I have cried to thee all the day.
Give joy to the soul of thy servant,
for to thee, O Lord, I have lifted up my soul.
For thou, O Lord, art sweet and mild:
and plenteous in mercy to all that call upon thee.

Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer:
and attend to the voice of my petition.
I have called upon thee in the day of my trouble:
because thou hast heard me.

There is none among the gods like unto thee, O Lord:
and there is none according to thy works.
All the nations thou hast made
shall come and adore before thee, O Lord:
and they shall glorify thy name.
For thou art great and dost wonderful things:
thou art God alone.

Conduct me, O Lord, in thy way,
and I will walk in thy truth:
let my heart rejoice that it may fear thy name.
I will praise thee, O Lord my God:
with my whole heart,
and I will glorify thy name for ever:
For thy mercy is great towards me:
and thou hast delivered my soul out of the lower hell.

O God, the wicked are risen up against me,
and the assembly of the mighty have sought my soul:
and they have not set thee before their eyes.
And thou, O Lord, art a God of compassion,
and merciful, patient, and of much mercy, and true.
O look upon me, and have mercy on me:
give thy command to thy servant,
and save the son of thy handmaid.

Shew me a token for good:
that they who hate me may see,
and be confounded,
Because thou, O Lord,
hast helped me and hast comforted me.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Lord God, you are full of mercies, patient and true.

Reading

1 Thessalonians 5:9-10

For God hath not appointed us unto wrath, but unto the purchasing of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us; that, whether we watch or sleep, we may live together with him.

Short Responsory

Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.
- Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.
You have redeemed us, Lord, God of faithfulness.
- Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
- Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.

Canticle

Nunc Dimittis

Keep us safe, Lord, while we are awake, and guard us as we sleep, so that we can keep watch with Christ and rest in peace.

Make the Sign of the Cross at the words “Now thou dost…”.

Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord,
according to thy word in peace;
Because my eyes have seen thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples:
A light to the revelation of the Gentiles,
and the glory of thy people Israel.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end.
Amen.

Keep us safe, Lord, while we are awake, and guard us as we sleep, so that we can keep watch with Christ and rest in peace.

Prayer

Let us pray.

Give our bodies rest, Lord, to restore them; and let the seeds sown by our labours today grow and yield an eternal harvest.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

May the almighty Lord grant us a quiet night and a perfect end.

Final Antiphon

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our Life, our Sweetness, and our Hope.
To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To Thee do we send up our sighs,
Mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then, most gracious Advocate,
Thine Eyes of Mercy toward us,
and after this our exile,
show unto us the Blessed Fruit of thy Womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary;
Pray for us O Holy Mother of God,
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.

End with the Triple Prayer: Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles Creed.
