"You could just feel the Spirit coming off of these people."
A very good friend of mine from a mom's message board I belong to posted a blog entry regarding the "Spirit filled" Baptist church she attends. It stemmed from a recent post she made on the board lamenting how stressed out she has been lately, suffering from post-partum depression she has been experiencing after the birth of her not yet 3 month old son. In it she described her church attendance this week, mostly alone, with her 5 children. She wrote: "I have been SO busy around here, too. I wasn't planning on taking much time off school, but we've had Jubilee at church this week. On Monday and Tuesday it went from 10am - 4pm, then we were back there at 6. We'd get home about 11 each night. I AM POOPED. It's been great, but it's just too much to deal with with 5 kids. Thank heavens they're not doing it during the day any more this week, so now I just have to deal with the night time services. Tonight's goes until 1am, but I'm thinking of leaving when hubby has to leave to go to work."
One of the other girls on the board responded to her post and suggested it was too much. When I checked her blog, I saw that this apparently struck a cord with her. You can read her blog entry here: http://www.5vinezmonkeys.com/2009/01/time-of-jubilee.html
I love my friend, but I was quite offended by her post. I doubt I will say anything so as not to create a problem between us, but I was really tempted. Can you imagine how "stuffy and strict" she would think my churches are with their Latin Masses, silence, dress codes, and head coverings? It is sub-consciously suggested, IMO, that anything less than shouting and dancing in the aisles is not giving Our Lord the praise He is due.

I don't get the emotionalism part of it like you. I would not create an argument with her over it, though. Maybe since they don't get the sacraments they are overcompensating in other areas?
