"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing." -Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
Placating terrorists, meeting with dictators, compassion for murderers... but no humanity for the unborn... incredible.
OOT
Legionaries of Christ This is an absolute disaster in the making for the Catholic Church and for the LC in particular. In comparison to the embarassment caused by Williamson, it is so much worse. Maybe it is a mercy that the Williamson imbroglio happened when it did since the press understands 'anti-semitism' more than real immorality. They are likely to remain thrown off the scent of a real scandal.
Re: Legionaries of Christ Some days I think that the entirety of Christendom is in need of revolution, as bad as that sounds...
Though many profess to be faithful, I think that the 'Sunday Catholic/Christian' is killing the Church. People who profess to walk the path, without seeking the deeper meaning of the teachings...
Granted, what can I truly say, as one who seeks deeper meaning, and struggles with all the questions, seemingly to no end?
I guess I figure at least I am taking it seriously. With the way some people speak of their Faith, it is evident, though not assured of course, that they do not truly believe that it has implications on their eternity.
I think that the 'Sunday Catholic/Christian' is killing the Church.
In my opinion, it's the cafeteria Catholic's causing much harm.
In the end, although this is a heartbreaking discovery, it does not tear down the foundation of the Catholic Church. Her foundation is built upon Christ. And although cracks may be present, the gates of hell will never prevail against her.

Re: Legionaries of Christ No, the foundation of the Church shall be fine. I am worried about the chunk of humanity, though, that honour that foundation in word but not in action.
But... Cafeteria Catholic??? That is one I have not heard.
Re: Legionaries of Christ A Cafeteria Christian is a person of Christian faith who chooses which religious doctrines they will follow, and which they will not, as though they were choosing what food to purchase in a cafeteria line.
A Cafeteria Catholic is applied to those who dissent from Catholic moral teaching on issues such as abortion, contraception, premarital sex, masturbation, and homosexuality.

Re: Legionaries of Christ I definitely agree. The fact of the matter is, if you state that one thing in the Bible is not valid, then you kind of invalidate claim of the rest to divine inspiration.
I say, if you ascribe to any of those things, you cannot be Christian, Jewish, or Muslim, let alone Catholic, specifically.
"DUBLIN – After a nine-year investigation, a commission published a damning report Wednesday on decades of rapes, humiliation and beatings at Catholic Church-run reform schools for Ireland's castaway children.
The 2,600-page report painted the most detailed and damning portrait yet of church-administered abuse in a country grown weary of revelations about child molestation by priests.
The investigation of the tax-supported schools uncovered previously secret Vatican records that demonstrated church knowledge of pedophiles in their ranks all the way back to the 1930s.
Wednesday's five-volume report on the probe — which was resisted by Catholic religious orders — concluded that church officials shielded their orders' pedophiles from arrest amid a culture of self-serving secrecy."
""I do genuinely believe that it would have been a further step towards our healing if our abusers had been named and shamed," said Christine Buckley, 62, who spent the first 18 years of her life in a Dublin orphanage where children were forced to manufacture rosaries — and were humiliated, beaten and raped whether they achieved their quota or not."
""Most of these orders will literally die out in Ireland within the next generation or so," said Michael Kelly, editor of the Irish Catholic newspaper in Dublin. "Many of them are already in wind-up mode. They lack the confidence even to seek new vocations (recruits), due to the stigma associated with their members' shocking, scandalous behavior." "
"Tom Sweeney, who spent five years in two Christian Brothers-run institutions where he was placed for truancy, says he suffered sexual abuse and beatings. He also has bitter memories about more everyday humiliations — such as being forced to wrap his urine-stained sheets around his neck and parade in front of other children when he'd wet his bed. "
