it's amusing that you consider Mel obsesed with violence , considering that violence is a fundamental part of the world we live in . Truth be told , Mel is producing movies with a message , and violence is only used to accentuate the realism , without being fake or excessive like in most movies of today .

I have to agree with AD. Most hollywood violence is put on the screen for the excitement, the rush it produces in the audience. It is basically pornography. Mel's earlier movies were like that but The Passion presented it in a way (a realistic way) that caused the audience to recoil in horror. I do not know what his new movie will be like but if he uses it to depict the barbarity to which men struggling to hold onto power will sink to, the violence might be justified.

AD, I did not say that I considered Mel to be obsessed with violence. I was questioning weather or not Mel truly sought to tell the passion of Christ, or simply made the film because he could include such violence?

Violence is a fundamental part of the world we live in, I agree. However, that violence need not be displayed for us simply because there is violence, and then glamorized for us on the Hollywood screen.

Michael, I agree which was my point with Mel. Just wondering if this was not his real intention?

Let's just say he is like the ones reenacting the POTC in Asia for example - or better said , realism is linked with violence from his point of view .

AD, those in the Phillipians who inflict violence upon themselves during Holy Week are misguided. What Mel accomplished was to bring a version of Christ's Passion as we have never seen before. However, this does not mean that this was his goal. I have always been a Gibson supporter, but as if late, I am not entirely convinced Mel is using violence to bring a message.

How many action movies do you see today - that are self-financed by the producer , spoken in a dead language and with unknown actors ? Oh , and CGI at a minimum too .

Well, you do have a point, but there are many folks who finance and produce their own films.

EDIT: I MUST APOPLOGISE TO ALL WHO ARE FOLLOWING THIS THREAD. IN MY HASTE TO REPLY, I ACCIDENTALLY CHOSE THE EDIT FUNCTION OF THIS POST AND NOT THE QUOTE FUNCTION. WHICH IS WHY AD'S NAME IS STILL ATTACHED, ALTHOUGH IT IS MY REPLY. THERE IS SOME INFORMATION I UNKNOWINGLY DELETED THAT OTHERS HAVE RESPONDED TO. I APOLOGISE FOR ANY INCONVIENCE.

Just curious Tony , why you have edited my post ? You should have it deleted if you don't agree with the ideas there - it's far better than censorship . But if you look at the school shootings , crime rate etc in the western world - you may still see that I do have a point - not perfect , of course , but open to debate .The problems I describe are both american and european ones - the problem with europeans being cowardice these days . The truth may hurt , but I want to comment the real thing , and not to be a PC lukewarm . Btw , I'm not a fan of violence myself - but I'm not for faking things either . Yes , Mel may have been over the top in some moments by today's standards - but it was everyday life these days .

I'm not Wizard , you know - you should have told me , and I would have edited the post myself .

Regarding China , they suffer from huge regional differences , lack of natural resources , bad relations with Vietnam , Korea and Japan - and from a growing middle class who is following materialism - and they have their own muslim problems .

I thought it was ok to express my personal opinion , after all these years we know each other . I was mistaken . It's ironic to see these things on the very board Iadvertised for so many time . I will take a pause from posting here . Farewell .

???

AD, I'm surprised you would think that my friend. It seems as if in my haste to reply, I hit the 'edit' button and not the 'quote' button, I had nor have any intentions of censoring any of your ideas. If you take a closer look, you can see how I quoted you, yet remained in your post with your NAME. I've never made that mistake before. I apologise.

I never said you did not have a point.

I agree, which is why I detest anyone saying that the POTC was pornographic in nature. I believe we need to see the horrors Christ endured for our Salvation.

AD, I apologize, as I said, I had no intentions of deleting anything you posted. It was an accident.

I do believe you are over reacting AD. I have never cencored you in the past for expressing your views. A simple PM to me would have cleared this up. Again, I made a mistake. I apologise.

Well Tony , I do believe you of course , but some passages were in fact deleted . In fact , even the question Michael answered to is no longer present .

" have never cencored you in the past for expressing your views.'

That's why I was stupefied . My mistake - I apologise .

Btw Michael , you should read your PMs on the POTC board .

Unfortunately yes. They were deleted by me because I thought I was quoting you and not editing your post.

Alas, I screwed up.

No need for any apology. I know I screwed up.

I thought you were editing my post because of our ( sometimes ) conflicting views regarding the state of the western world .

AD, my friend, I have always valued your views. Regardless if we do not agree on a particular subject, I would never choose to edit you.

I have had to edit one person since the establishment of this forum, and that was Wizard from the Passion pit, and only becuase he attacked the faith.
