Possible boost for Catholic Church to win converts?
I was watching a report on Fox News this am. They showed Great Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair meeting with the Pope. They went on to say that Blair often goes to Mass wife his wife, who is Catholic. Rumor has it that Blair will convert to Catholicism after he gives up his post as Prime Minister.
Now, I just checked this out and one website claims that in 2003, when the Blairs visited the Vatican, the Pope's secretary, Archbishop Dsiwisz, said a private Mass for Blair and John Paul and that both took Communion from him. The Guardian newspaper speculated that John Paul would not have allowed Blair to take Communion, if he had not known that Blair was a Catholic in his heart. The Guardian also claims that Blair has been attending Mass with his wife and children for years and that he was even preprimanded once by Cardinal Hume for receiving Communion.
Anyway, we will have to wait a while to see what happens, though one TV report this past week said that Blair might step down as Prime Minister in a few months. Though Blair is no longer popular in Britain, he is quite popular in the U.S. If he actually converts, perhaps the publicity with help the U.S. Church to win a few converts?
